Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin eductivus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin eductivus (in philosophical context) having the function or quality of bringing out, eliciting, or inferring something from something else (from 9th cent. in British sources), (in medical context) tending to draw out (13th cent. in a British source; 1363 in Chauliac) < classical Latin ēduct- , past participial stem of ēdūcere educe v. + -īvus -ive suffix. Compare eduction n.The adjective eductible also occurs in isolated use in Middle English in the work cited in quot. ?a1425 at sense 1.
1. Medicine. Having the function of removing or expelling something from the body. Cf. eduction n. 1. Obsolete.
