dunklen.

Brit. /ˈdʌŋkl/, U.S. /ˈdəŋk(ə)l/, Scottish English /ˈdʌŋk(ə)l/

Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by conversion. Perhaps formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: dunkle v.; dunt n.1, -le suffix 1.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < dunkle v. (although this is first attested later), or perhaps < dunt n.1 (first attested later in the relevant sense, but compare earlier dint n. 3) + -le suffix 1, with a change of t to k in the consonant cluster. Perhaps compare earlier dimple n. and the discussion at that entry. Compare later duntle v.
Scottish. Now rare.
