Etymology: Found in first half of the 16th cent.; no corresponding Middle English or Old English form is recorded: it is however probably related to Old English drúsian : see drowse v.
1. Inclined to sleep, esp. at a time when one wishes, or ought, to be awake; heavy with sleepiness; half asleep, dozing.
