Etymology: < French dufrénoysite (A. Damour 1845, in Ann. de chim. et de physique 30 383) < the name of Ours-Pierre-Armand Petit-Dufrénoy , known as Pierre-Armand Dufrénoy (1792–1857), French geologist and mineralogist + French -ite -ite suffix¹, with insertion of s for euphony, probably after other mineral names ending in -site (compare e.g. marcasite marcasite n.).

A mineral consisting of a sulphide of lead and arsenic, typically occurring as dark grey prisms with a metallic lustre.Chemical formula: Pb₂As₂S₅. Crystal system: monoclinic.
