Etymology: < dredge v.2 + -er suffix1.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈdredger.
A box with a perforated lid for sprinkling powder over anything, as a flour-dredger. In quot. 1666, some think = French drageoir, Old French also drageur, ‘a comfet box of silver’, Cotgrave.
