Etymology: < Hindi doglā (adjective) of mixed descent, (noun) person of mixed descent, specific use of doglā hybrid, cross-bred, further etymology unknown.Compare the following earlier passage from an Indian English context (with reference to animals), which either shows the Hindi word (but with an English plural ending) or perhaps a rare local borrowing into English:1896 Agric. Ledger 1895 (Calcutta) No. 22. 22 The people of Harriana district..dislike them [sc. a breed of bull]..as they have all the faults they consider worst... They are also..doglas or cross bred.
