The action or an act of drawing or pulling someone or something down (literal and figurative); lowering, depletion; (Scottish) oppression, suppression (now rare). Cf. downdraught n. 1a, down-drag n. Sc. National Dict. (at Doon) records the Scottish sense as still in use in Angus in 1940.
