Compare scientific Latin aluco, specific name of the tawny owl ( Linnaeus Systema naturæ (ed. 10, 1758) 93), Aluco, former genus name of the barn owls ( J. Fleming Philos. Zool. (1822) II. 236).

Obsolete.
