Etymology: Middle English (and Anglo-Norman) ditour = Old French diteor , ditor , ditur author, composer, public crier, etc. < Latin dictātōr-em (see dictator n.), agent-noun < dictāre : see dite v. But in sense 1, perhaps formed by conversion of the verb.
Obsolete.
