1. Characterized by the carrying out of a task oneself as opposed to relying on or employing other people or resources; (now) esp. of, relating to, or serving the activity of decorating, building, and making fixtures and repairs at home by oneself rather than employing a person with professional qualifications. Cf. DIY adj. 1.A popular ‘Do It Yourself’ series of books, dealing with home decorating, carpentry, etc., was launched by the British publisher W. Foulsham & Co. Ltd. in 1928.
