Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Alloklas.

Etymology: < German Alloklas (G. Tschermak 1866, in Sitzungsber. der Kaiserlichen Akad. der Wissensch. Wien: Math.-Naturwissensch. Klasse 53 220) < allo- allo- comb. form + ancient Greek κλάσις fracture (see -clase comb. form); so called because it showed a different cleavage from other minerals with which it had been confused.
