1. A marine gastropod mollusc, Nucella lapillus (family Muricidae), which is common on North Atlantic coasts and is a predator of other molluscs. Also more widely (U.S.): = dogwinkle n. at dog n.¹ Compounds 3b(a). Nucella lapillus was formerly placed in the genera Buccinum, Thais, or Purpura.
