Etymology: Partly < discolour v. + -ed suffix1, and partly (in sense 2) < either classical Latin discolor or discolōrus (for both, see discolor adj.) + -ed suffix1.Compare Anglo-Norman descoloré, descoluré, desculuré pale, wan (first half of the 12th cent.), changed in colour (13th cent. or earlier), Middle French descoulouré deprived of colour (16th cent. in descoulourément, adverb; French décoloré subsequently from late 18th cent. in figurative use with reference to style).
