单词 ambu
释义

Ambun.

Brit. /ˈamb(j)uː/, U.S. /ˈæmbu/
Forms: also with lower-case initial.
Origin: A borrowing from Danish. Etymon: Danish Ambu.
Etymology: < Danish Ambu (1958 as a proprietary name), probably shortened < ambulant (adjective) designating outpatient facilities or treatment, (of a patient) not requiring hospitalization (early 20th cent.; early 19th cent. in sense ‘itinerant’ < French ambulant ambulant adj.); compare Ambu-pose Ambu bag (1965 or earlier).Compare German Ambu-Saugpumpe Ambu suction pump (1958), Ambu-Wiederbelebungs-Geräte Ambu resuscitation equipment (1958), Ambu-Beutel Ambu bag (1969 or earlier). The type of resuscitator was developed in 1956 by the German engineer Holger Hesse and his Danish partner, the anaesthetist Henning Ruben, for the Danish company Testa Laboratorium (the company was renamed Ambu in 1986). The name was registered as a trademark in Denmark, West Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States in 1958. In Danish the resuscitator is also called Rubenspose (1959) and Rubensballon (1958), after its co-inventor. Sometimes explained as an acronym, variously for artificial manual breathing unit, artificial mandatory breathing unit, or air mask bag unit, but these reflect later rationalizations.
