Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin discerpibilis ; Latin discerpere , -ible suffix.
Etymology: Either < post-classical Latin discerpibilis (also used by Henry More (compare quot. 1655), but apparently first attested later than the English word: 1668 or earlier) < classical Latin discerpere discerp v. + -bilis -ble suffix, or directly < classical Latin discerpere discerp v. + -ible suffix. Compare earlier discernible adj. and slightly later indiscerpible adj. In later use superseded by discerptible adj.With the form discerpable compare -able suffix.
= discerptible adj.In later use chiefly with reference to the works of Henry More and his contemporaries.
