Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin discurrere.
Etymology: < classical Latin discurrere to run off in several directions, to run about (see discourse v.). Compare Middle French, French discourir to run through, to run about, (of the mind) to move from one subject to another (see discourse v.). Compare earlier discourse v. 2, 3.
Obsolete.
1. intransitive. To run about; to range, wander. Frequently with adverb or preposition. Also figurative.
