Etymology: < dis- prefix + accustom v., after Middle French desacoustumer, desaccoustumer (French désaccoutumer ) to defamiliarize (a person) from something (c1200 in Old French as desacostumer ), to discontinue (a habit, practice, etc.) (14th cent.). Compare slightly earlier disaccustoming n.Compare Old Occitan desacostumar, Spanish desacostumbrar (13th cent.).
