单词 discourteous
释义

discourteousadj.

Brit. /dɪˈskəːtɪəs/, U.S. /dɪˈskərdiəs/
Forms: see dis- prefix and courteous adj.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; originally modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: dis- prefix, courteous adj.
Etymology: < dis- prefix + courteous adj., originally after Italian discortese (15th cent.; 1559 in the passage translated in quot. 1561; now literary, the usual word being scortese , which is formed with a different prefix). Compare Middle French descourtois (1416 and 1575 in two apparently isolated attestations), Middle French, French †discourtois (1584; perhaps with alteration of the prefix after Italian discortese ), Old Occitan descortes (12th cent.), Spanish descortés (late 14th cent.). Compare slightly earlier discourtesy n. N.E.D. (1896) also gives the pronunciation (diskōə·ɹtyəs) /dɪsˈkɔətjəs/.
Lacking in good manners or courtesy; rude, impolite.
