Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek τατικός.
Etymology:  <  ancient Greek τατικός exerting tension  <  τα-  , zero-grade of the stem of τείνειν   to stretch, extend (see tone n.) + -τικός  , suffix forming adjectives from verbs; compare -ic suffix. Compare ancient Greek τάσις   tension (see protasis n.).Formations are shown by myotatic adj.   and homotatic adj. at homo- comb. form 1. Ancient Greek τατικός   is used in Hellenistic Greek in combination with a number of prefixes (in e.g. ἐντατικός  entatic adj.).
