Etymology: < post-classical Latin diennis of two years (15th cent.), alteration (after di- di- comb. form) of biennis (see biennial adj.) + -al suffix¹.Post-classical Latin diennis is attributed (e.g. in 17th-cent. Latin-English dictionaries) to Macrobius, but he uses only biennis. Compare post-classical Latin diennium period of two years (recorded in glossaries).

Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
