Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin dictyonalia.
Etymology: < scientific Latin dictyonalia (neuter plural) < ancient Greek δίκτυον net (see dictyo- comb. form) + scientific Latin -alia (see -al suffix1). Compare dictyonal adj.Quot. 1887 translates an unpublished German text.
Zoology.
With plural agreement: the spicules that are fused together to form the siliceous skeleton of a dictyonine sponge. Occasionally also (with singular agreement): the skeleton so formed.
