释义

devoutadj.n.

/dɪˈvaʊt/
Forms: α. Middle English (1500s Scottish) devot, Middle English–1600s (1800s archaic) devote, (Middle English devoste), 1500s Scottish devoit, divoit, divot. β. Middle English– devout, Middle English devowt(e, Middle English–1500s devoute.
Etymology: Middle English devot , devout , < Old French devot, devote (12th cent. in Littré), = Provençal devot , Spanish devoto , Italian divoto , < Latin dēvōtus devoted, given up by vow, past participle of dēvovēre to devote v.
