单词 allegeable
释义

allegeableadj.

Brit. /əˈlɛdʒəbl/, U.S. /əˈlɛdʒəb(ə)l/
Forms: 1500s 1700s allegable, 1600s–1800s alledgeable, 1800s– allegeable, 1800s– allegible.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: allege v.1, -able suffix.
Etymology: < allege v.1 + -able suffix, probably after either Anglo-Norman alleggeable (14th cent.) or post-classical Latin allegabilis (from 13th cent. in British sources). The form allegable , especially in early use, could instead show a borrowing of post-classical Latin allegabilis , with /ɡ/ (compare allegate v. and related words).
Capable of being submitted as evidence, or given as a reason or excuse for something. Also: (of an author, text, or passage) capable of being cited or quoted as an authority. Now rare.
