Etymology: modern < Greek δέρμα skin: compare French derme (1611 Cotgrave), modern Latin derma (Paré c1550).
Anatomy.
a. The layer of tissue (chiefly connective tissue) lying beneath the epidermis, and forming the general integument of the organs; the true skin or corium.
