释义 | demoidadj. Palaeontology. Now disused. Designating a type or species of fossil which is characteristically common across a broad geological formation. ΚΠ 1884 H. G. Seeley Phillips's Man. Geol. (rev. ed.) I. 437 The abundant demoid types, which are termed characteristic fossils, for their abundance is such that strata are easily recognised by them. Every formation has its demoid types; which in the Primary rocks are generally brachiopods. 1885 Geol. Mag. 128 The relations of a thoroughly demoid type are pretty wide. 1905 J. F. Blake Monogr. Fauna Cornbrash v. 15 Mr. Beeby Thompson..assigns a single bed to the Cornbrash, the upper part of which contains characteristic fossils, the lower part containing only the demoid forms which are common to more than one horizon.
