Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ῥητίνη.

Etymology: < ancient Greek ῥητίνη resin (see retinite n.), with assimilation of the ending to -in suffix¹. Apparently earliest in saliretin n., after French salirétine . Compare also rhodeoretin n., pyroretin n., and other borrowings from German. Compare -etin suffix.
