Etymology: Originally (i) an alteration of deliberation n.2 after deliver v.1 In later use partly (ii) re-formed < deliver v.1 + -ation suffix. Compare earlier deliberation n.2, and also earlier deliverance n., delivering n., delivery n.Compare Middle French delyverasion (12th cent. in Old French as delivraison), Old Occitan deliuraxon.
