Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French délimiter; Latin dēlīmitāre.
Etymology: < (i) French délimiter (1773), or its etymon (ii) classical Latin dēlīmitāre to mark the boundaries of < dē- de- prefix + līmitāre limit v. Compare earlier delimitation n. and later delimitate v., and also earlier limit v.
