Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin dēlētīcius , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin dēlētīcius, dēlētītius on which the original writing has been erased (2nd cent. a.d. in legal context; < dēlēt- , past participial stem of dēlēre delete v. + -īcius : see -itious suffix1) + -ous suffix.
Obsolete. rare.
Of paper: capable of having writing, printing, etc., erased from the surface to allow for correction or reuse.figurative in quot. 1891 (of a person's nature): susceptible to the erasing or eroding of memories, impressions, etc., and therefore easily changed.
