Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: de- prefix, Latin femina , -ize suffix; de- prefix, feminize v.
Etymology: Originally < de- prefix + classical Latin femina woman (see feminine adj.) + -ize suffix. Compare earlier feminize v. In later use partly directly < de- prefix + feminize v.
transitive. To make unfeminine; to deprive of femininity.
