Etymology: < German Alexin (H. Buchner 1891, in Münchener med. Wochenschr. 38 437/1, in plural form Alexine ) < ancient Greek ἀλέξειν to ward off ( < the same Indo-European base as Sanskrit rakṣ- to protect) + German -in -in suffix¹.
