Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Alkarsin.
Etymology: < German Alkarsin (G. Bunsen 1837, in Ann. der Physik u. Chem. 40 220) < Alk- (in Alkali alkali n.) + Ars- (in Arsenik arsenic n.) + -in -in suffix1, with reference to its preparation. Compare alkargen n.

1922 J. J. Sudborough Bernthsen's Text-bk. Org. Chem. (new ed.) iv. 120 The distillate of cacodyl and cacodyl oxide so obtained, and termed ‘alkarsin’, fumes in the air and is spontaneously inflammable (Cadet's ‘fuming arsenical liquid’).
2001 Organometallics 20 1490/1 Slow, controlled air oxidation of Alkarsin, Bunsen found, gave two products: arsenious acid and a crystalline compound that he named Alkargen.
