单词 crosslet
释义

crossletn.1

Forms: Middle English–1500s croslet, Middle English–1600s crosselet, 1600s crosslet; also Middle English croslette, crosel(l)et(t, crosselette, croislet; cres(e)let(e, cresselet, crescellette.
Etymology: apparently diminutive of Old French croiseul night-lamp, crucible n. Besides croiseul , in Cotgrave cruzeul , crusol , Old French had also the parallel diminutive forms croisel , crosel , cruseau , and later French croiset , now creuset (see cruset n.); both endings appear to be present in croselet. French had also a variant creseul: compare English variants in cres-. The sense ‘lamp’ is apparently not recorded in English.
Obsolete.
