Brit. /ˈkruːɪt/, U.S. /ˈkruət/

Etymology: Middle English cruete, cruette, appears to representing an Old French *cruete, diminutive of Old French cruie, crue, pot, = Gascon cruga (compare Provençal crugó), apparently < Old Low German crûca, Middle Low German kruke (feminine), cognate with Old High German kruog, German krug (masculine), pot, which appears to have entered the Romanic of Gaul in the two forms *crūca, *crūga, whence French cruche, cruie respectively. An Anglo-Norman cruet (masculine) of date 1376 is cited in Godefroy.
