Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin aliquotus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin aliquotus forming an integral factor (from 13th cent. (frequently in British sources) in aliquota pars aliquot part) < classical Latin aliquot some, several < alius some or other (see alien adj.) + quot how many (see quota n.). With use as noun compare post-classical Latin aliquota (from 13th cent. in British sources), use as noun (short for aliquota pars) of feminine of aliquotus. Compare French aliquote, adjective (1487), noun (1762).

Mathematics. Contained in a larger number a certain number of times without leaving any remainder; forming an exact divisor; (gen.) constituting a portion or fraction, fractional. Contrasted with aliquant. Chiefly in aliquot part.
