Origin: A borrowing from Urdu. Etymon: Urdu aḥmadī.
Etymology: < Urdu aḥmadī < Aḥmad , male forename (see discussion at Ahmadiyya n.2) + -i suffix2. Compare Persian aḥmadī (adjective) belonging to Aḥmad, (noun) follower of a person named Aḥmad (e.g. Mīrzā Ġulām Aḥmad ), Muslim (with reference to the byname of the Prophet). Compare earlier Ahmadiyya n.2

A member of the Ahmadiyya sect (see Ahmadiyya n.2 1). Chiefly in plural.
