Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; originally modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: anthropo- comb. form, -lith comb. form.
Etymology: < anthropo- comb. form + -lith comb. form, originally after post-classical Latin Anthropolithus (see anthropolite n.). Compare earlier anthropolite n. and the foreign-language forms cited at that entry.
Now rare.
A petrified human body, or part of one; a fossil of (supposedly) human origin. Also: a human figure made of stone; figurative a person without feelings or emotions. Cf. anthropolite n.
