Etymology: < German Anthoxanthin ( L. C. Marquart Farben der Blüthen (1835) 66; also Anthoxantin (1840 or earlier)) < ancient Greek ἄνθος flower (see anthos n.) + ancient Greek ξανθός yellow (see xantho- comb. form) + German -in -in suffix¹.
