单词 albariza
释义

albarizan.

Brit. /ˌalbəˈriːθə/, /ˌalbəˈriːsə/, U.S. /ˌɑlbəˈrisə/
Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish albariza.
Etymology: < Spanish albariza (1776 or earlier with reference to vineyards in Jerez), use as noun of albariza , feminine of albarizo (adjective) whitish ( < albar white (1269; < classical Latin albāris to do with stucco, whitish: see opier n.) + -iza ( < -īcea : see -itious suffix1)), probably (despite the chronology) short for tierra albariza whitish soil or land (1801 or earlier); compare Spanish albarizo (masculine) in the same sense, probably short for terreno albarizo (both 1807 or earlier).
A whitish, chalky loam characteristic of the sherry-producing region around the city of Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. Frequently attributive.
