(a) A committee of the British House of Commons (between 1641 and 1967) concerned with raising government revenue. Now historical. Chairman of Ways and Means: the principal Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, who presides over the House in the Speaker's absence, formerly (until 1967) also chairman of the Committee of Ways and Means.
