Etymology: Alteration (with suffix substitution: see -ure suffix1) of coloratura n., probably partly after German Koloratur (see coloratura n.). N.E.D. (1891) also gives the pronunciation (kǫ·lŏrătiuɹ) /ˈkɒlərətjə(r)/.
