-morphycomb. form
Primary stress is retained by the usual stressed syllable of the preceding element and vowels may be reduced accordingly; see e.g.
actinomorphy n.Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; partly modelled on a Greek lexical item. Etymons: Greek μορϕή , -y suffix3.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μορϕή form (see -morph comb. form) + -y suffix3, partly after ancient Greek -μορϕία (in e.g. πολυμορϕία polymorphy n.).Combined with first elements ultimately of Greek origin. It has been less productive than the related terminal combining forms containing the element -morph- (compare especially the partly parallel -morphism comb. form). English formations are found from the second half of the 19th cent. onwards.
