Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Aggressin.
Etymology: < German Aggressin (O. Bail 1905, in Archiv f. Hygiene 52 340; also Agressin) < aggress- (in Aggression aggression n., aggressiv aggressive adj., etc.) + -in -in suffix1. Compare French agressine (1905 or earlier; apparently < German).
Microbiology.
Any of various products or components of microorganisms that increase virulence, esp. by causing inhibition or evasion of the host's defences.
