Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin aequoreus , -al suffix1.
Etymology: < classical Latin aequoreus of, belonging to, or connected with the sea ( < aequor sea ( < aequus (see equal adj.) + -or -or suffix) + -eus : see -eous suffix) + -al suffix1. In zoological names, after scientific Latin use as a specific name (Linnaeus 1758).
Chiefly poetic or Zoology. Now rare.
