释义 | Ciskeianadj.n. A. adj. Of or relating to the Ciskei, a territory on the south-eastern coast of South Africa, or its inhabitants. Cf. Transkei n.The Ciskei, the traditional territory of the AmaRarabe Xhosa people, situated between the Fish and Kei rivers, was known during the 19th cent. as the Province of Queen Adelaide, and subsequently as British Kaffraria. The territory was incorporated into the Cape Colony in 1866.In 1972, under apartheid, the Ciskei was made a self-governing Xhosa state, in 1981 being declared an independent Xhosa ‘homeland’. The Ciskei was reincorporated into the South African state in 1994.
