Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: chrono- comb. form, -tropy comb. form.
Etymology: < chrono- comb. form + -tropy comb. form, after German Chronotropie (1899 or earlier). Compare earlier chronotropism n., chronotropic adj.
Physiology.
The rate of muscular contraction, esp. of the heart. Cf. inotropy n.
