单词 chrism
释义

chrismn.

Brit. /ˈkrɪz(ə)m/, U.S. /ˈkrɪzəm/
Forms: Old English crisma, crysma, Middle English–1500s, 1700s crisme, Middle English crysme, Middle English cresme, 1500s chresme, 1500s–1600s chrisme, 1600s chrysme, 1600s– chrism.
Etymology: Found in different forms. Latin chrisma (Tertullian), < Greek χρῖσμα anointing, unction, < χρίειν to anoint, regularly became in Romanic cresma , Old French cresme (= crême ). The Latin was adopted directly in Old English as crisma weak masculine, whence Middle English crisme . Alongside of this, from c1300, is found creme (also creyme , crayme , later creame , cream ) and rarely cresme , < Old French cresme , crême . In the 16th cent. both the French and the English word began to be refashioned with ch , after the Latin original, giving modern French chrême , and English chrism . The other form creme , cream (in 16th cent. occasionally chreame ), then went out of use; see cream n.1
