Etymology: Either (i) < Chink n.5 (although this is first attested later) + -y suffix6, or perhaps (ii) < Chinky adj.2 (although this is first attested slightly later) or its potential etymon chinky adj.1 (compare the semantic discussion at Chink n.5); if so probably partly with reinterpretation of the suffix as showing -y suffix6.

1. Usually derogatory. A person of Chinese birth or descent; (also more generally) a person of East Asian or South-East Asian birth or descent.Earliest in Australian use.
