Etymology: < the name of China (see China n.1) + -ish suffix1. Compare Chinean n. and slightly later Chinean adj. Compare also Chinese adj.In quot. 1598 after early modern Dutch Chinisch (1595 in the passage translated), which is common in the work of J. H. van Linschoten, but apparently not attested elsewhere; the usual word in Dutch is Chinees , †Chineesch (see Chinese adj.).
Now nonstandard.
