Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin chemiatricus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin chemiatricus (1609 or earlier as chymiatricus ) < chemiatria (1612 or earlier; 1595 or earlier as chymiatria ; < Hellenistic Greek χημία alchemy, chemistry (see alchemy n.) + ancient Greek ἰατρεία medical treatment: see -iatry comb. form) + -icus -ic suffix. Compare French chimiatrique (1770 or earlier), German chemiatrisch (1824 or earlier). Compare also French chimiatrie the chemiatric theory or school (1792), chimiatre physician of the chemiatric school (1793), German Chemiatrie the chemiatric theory or school (1805 or earlier), Chemiatriker physician of the chemiatric school (1809 or earlier).With the variation in forms compare discussion at chemic n.
